3 Minute Pause

I became more aware of how sometimes in the classroom the full stories are not always told. I never really thought about how we only talked about things from one point of view. Students should be able to hear both sides of stories about history so it can all make sense. We are able to get a better understanding of why some things happen when the full story is provided. We would begin to dig into other cultures' history as well. I also believe getting stories from different points of views will keep students' attention in the classroom. I know I love to know the reasoning behind what people do especially if it is not good.

I was surprised about how much money affects students' education. Of course I know students that do not necessarily have as much as their neighbors are judged by both their teachers and peers. I did not think too much about how these students may actually be treated differently because of what their parents make. From personal experience it is not made a priority to make sure students personal information is protected. I remember at the middle school I went to, there were 4 teachers that always stood at the end of the hall in between classes and talked about anything and everything. They would even talk about students where others could hear what they were saying while passing. So the fact that students know their peers' family's financial situations is no surprise to me.

What does money really have to do with it?

I believe it is sad that students education depends on their physical appearance and where they live or come from. I agree with many others that money should not be the reason some students do not get as good of an education as all the other students. For starters children cannot control where they come and they can't control if, where, or when their parents work and they also can't control how much their parents are making. Students that come from a lower income already feel different from others and I believe teachers should make sure no one is feeling singled out. For example students do not need to know which of their peers or classmates are eligible for free lunches. I do not think we as teachers should even be discussing those type of things in front of students. We should not be judgmental towards others especially when at school and it should not be tolerated. Students like to tease their classmates or other students because of what they may be wearing and what conditio...

How Does Gender Affect the Teaching Profession?

Gender can affect the teaching profession in many ways. I never really paid attention to how at the elementary school I went to and other elementary schools surrounding there were close to no male teachers, if any at all. There were definitely men working as principles, superintendents, and other administrative positions. In the Harvard Edlast podcast they talk about how a woman being more emotional or if she shows that she may be soft, this shows that she can not or may not be ready to handle the leadership. But whenever woman show the characteristics that are more so considered for males, like being more aggressive those woman a criticized. This is based off of the bar that society has set for everyone. Hopefully one day it will not matter what gender you are to be able to do what you love. For example hopefully we will see more men in the elementary school hallways, and more woman leading board meetings. Leaders should be able to show their emotions and not always have to show ...
