Why Teach?

Schools are important for many different reasons. Schools help students learn facts about the past and also about things that are going on in todays world, which I believe is important for students to be aware of. Schools also give students a good chance to work on and improve their communication skills. They are exposed to people who are not in their family or friend group, and they learn to work together. The teachers at the schools help students prepare for life as an adult. Schools are also a place that should be considered a safe place, and to some students it may be the safest place that they have to go. Schools provide children warm and nutritious meals which might not be as available at home. Marginalized students in schools would be those considered black or a person of color, plus size, and people apart of the lgbtq+ community.  Hello everybody! I’m Shalondra and I am from a small town about an hour outside of downtown Houston called East Bernard. My goal is to become an elementary school teacher. I would say I was motivated by a few teachers to go down this path, because of how great they were to their students. I have witnessed some teachers show how much their students mean to them by doing simple gestures. Some teachers really show that they want their students to be successful and I want to be one of those teachers.  I would love to teach anywhere between kindergarten and second grade students. I have worked with younger children for a few years now and that is something that I would enjoy doing for as long as I can. A couple of those teachers that motivated me were also from my elementary school days.
